A Remote Ghost Town in Idaho

We were just looking for a direction, a place to park the van for the night when we saw Lakeview, Idaho on the map. Turns out it is one of the most remote ghost towns we have ever been to. Depending on which direction you head in you're either an hour or 2 on roughly maintained dirt road just to get to the town itself.
It's hard to believe that more than 1000 people used to live here not long after it was established as a mining town in the late 1800s. Today the ghostly town is spotted with antique structures and a few vacation homes. 20 or so families can be found here on their properties in the summers. We even met a man and his wife that stay there year round. They have a jeep, a boat and a snowmobile to get to town with.
Being nestled on the banks of Lake Pend Oreille offers a third highway in and out of Lakeview. At sunset we met a few boaters off the community docks. 2 sailors were up for the day having a barbecue and finished up just in time to sail off into the sunset. We were the lucky ones though. This paradise was our home for the night. Vanlife is incredible.
